Establishment

The Australia-Latin America Business Council (ALABC) Women in STEM Scholarship 2026 has been established to provide a high-performing student in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) with an opportunity to study at the University of Newcastle. The Scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who received an offer to study in an eligible program and commence study with the University in Semester 1, 2026 and beyond.

A maximum of 1 scholarship will be awarded in 2026, with the successful recipient selected by a judging panel based on criteria specified in this document.

Applications open Monday 25 August and will close by Sunday 14 September 2025 at 11:59pm.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:

  • Be commencing study in an eligible CRICOS-registered undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program at the University. Please see the eligible programs are listed in the Terms and Conditions document.
  • Be a citizen of the eligible states and territories noted for this scholarship noted in the Terms and Conditions.
  • Be able to meet the financial obligations of a full fee-paying international student specified by the Australian Government. Evidence of this ability must be provided if requested by the university.
  • Not be the beneficiary of a separate University scholarship unless prior approval for special dispensation has been obtained from the university.
  • Meet the minimum academic entry requirements for their chosen program of study.

Required Documentation

A video submission in English language (maximum 5 minutes duration) which addresses why you wish to study with University of Newcastle, why are you passionate about STEM, and why do you believe you will be an outstanding ambassador for the University.


Benefit

The scholarship has:

  • Annual Value: A dollar value equivalent to 100% of the gross annual international tuition fee.
  • Unit Value (based on 10 units): A dollar value equivalent to 100% of the gross unit value, which is variable based on program of study.

The scholarship will be administered for each term of study in the eligible program(s) as a tuition fee reduction against the number of units required to successfully complete the program of study as outlined in the program handbook.

The scholarship benefit will be applied as tuition fee waivers directly into the recipient’s University student account.


Selection

Applications are not via our scholarship application portal.

Please apply for this scholarship by submitting a video to alabcscholarship@newcastle.edu.au before the scholarship close date.

Your video will be in the English language and no longer than 5 minutes in duration. Please address the following 3 questions:

  • Why do you wish to study at the University of Newcastle?
  • Why are you passionate about STEM?
  • Why do you believe you would be an outstanding ambassador for the University?

Written submissions will not be considered.

Selection will be based on assessment of your submission by the appointed judging panel, comprising of representatives from ALABC, the University, and external partners.

Selection will take into account your admission to one of the eligible programs for this scholarship which are:

  • Bachelor of Computer Science including combined programs
  • Bachelor of Data Science including combined programs
  • Bachelor of Design (Architecture)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (all streams)
  • Master of Architecture
  • Master of Construction Management
  • Master of Cyber Security
  • Master of Data Science & AI
  • Master of Engineering (all streams)

A maximum of 1 scholarship will be awarded in 2026. All determinations of eligibility are aligned to the University’s published entry and eligibility requirements and made at the absolute discretion of the University.
